Kansas is pretty nice this time of year. It's very green and a bit hilly. Loads of wild flowers- probably due to all the rain in the past few weeks. There are miles of fields of corn and wheat dotted with oil wells. Lots of trees and many abandoned farm houses. The towns seem to be hard hit by the downturn in the economy. The biggest and newest structures we have seen are the churches. This is Bible Belt country. Horse racing seems popular around here too. So many of the towns have their own "downs". Every town has some sort of museum. It's pretty funny to see so many of them. They are about all sorts of stuff. We even passed the Kansas Teacher's Hall of Fame! Many are about the Santa Fe trail. That's pretty much the route we are following. This is definitely the Midwest and the plains are so different than home! We don't want to move here, but it's been a fun start to the cross country adventure.
On to Missouri and the Lake of the Ozarks!

Some places were made for visiting, but not so good for living. This trip will provide a great education on which is which.
